This song is a conversation between a husband and a wife

The turban is out (of fashion), the towel on shoulder is out (of fashion)

The ‘Topi’ is out, the whole generation is bare-headed today.

I am going mad watching all these

The old are gone and new customs have arrived

Anna (one sixth of rupee) is obsolete today, Paisa is obsolete;

Even two Annas are obsolete …and ‘Char-Annas’ can’t be found anymore.

 50 paise have now become ‘Aath Annas’..

and 100 paise are called one rupee!

Well paper notes have replaced the coins

I am going mad counting all the paper notes.

The old are gone and new customs have arrived

One day I went to the market and I had 8 Annas only;

I asked the seller for a Kilo of rice

But price of rice had increased to one rupee per kilo;

I don’t understand the measurement term Kilogram

The seller told ‘take it or just go away’

So I came back empty handed

I am going mad checking my expenditures

I am going mad  calculating the notes

The old are gone and new customs have arrived

‘Dhoti’ is obsolete, ‘Chaddi’ is obsolete;

those are replaced by suits and pants.

Now one has to wear ‘Panty’ under the trousers

 People now walk on the roads

… as if they are rushing to fight;

Old (nine yard) sari and blouse have been replaced by gol sari (5 yard sari)

Women now wear tight bras under their blouses.

Even if they try to cover themselves up their bodies remain uncovered;

‘Bidi’ is gone, ‘Chilam’ is gone;

O dear ‘Pouch’(Gutkha) is in vogue now

Now everybody is addicted to Pouch

The addiction has made the whole generation’s mouth dirty
